4TH WCC – WORLD CONFOCAL CONGRESS

Advances in non-invasive skin imaging, including Reflectance Confocal Microscopy (RCM), Line-Field Confocal Optical Coherence Tomography (LC-OCT), dermoscopy, and digital photography, have significantly impacted dermatologic diagnosis and management. Despite increasing availability of these technologies, there remains substantial variability in their appropriate clinical use, interpretation, integration into diagnostic algorithms, and application across different dermatologic conditions. This educational gap may lead to suboptimal diagnostic accuracy, inconsistent decision-making, unnecessary invasive procedures, and variability in patient outcomes.

The 4th World Confocal Congress (WCC) has been developed to address these unmet educational needs by providing an evidence-based, structured, and clinically focused educational program.

The congress aims to enhance physicians’ knowledge, competence, and performance in the use of advanced non-invasive imaging modalities in dermatologic practice. In detail:

-The role of RCM, LC-OCT, and complementary imaging tools in the evaluation and management of pigmented lesions,

-non-melanocytic skin tumors,

-inflammatory and infectious dermatoses,

-hair and scalp disorders,

and cosmetologic applications.

Particular attention is given to challenging clinical scenarios where conventional clinical and dermoscopic assessment may be insufficient, including early melanoma detection, lentigo maligna management, biopsy guidance, margin assessment, treatment monitoring, and follow-up strategies.

Educational formats include keynote lectures, structured courses, case-based discussions, expert panels, and interactive sessions, all designed to promote critical thinking and practical decision-making. Emerging topics such as artificial intelligence, digital pathology, ex vivo confocal microscopy, portable imaging devices, and future accessibility of advanced imaging technologies are also addressed to prepare clinicians for evolving standards of care.

Upon completion of the educational activity, participants are expected to be better able to:

• Select appropriate non-invasive imaging modalities for specific clinical indications
• Accurately interpret imaging findings in common and complex dermatologic conditions
• Integrate advanced imaging into diagnostic, therapeutic, and follow-up pathways
• Reduce unnecessary biopsies and improve patient-centered clinical decision-making

This congress is intended for dermatologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis and management of skin diseases who seek to improve clinical competence and align their practice with current evidence and expert consensus in non-invasive skin imaging.
